Well, as most of you know, the TEC Politburo House of Bishops has been meeting at Camp Allen in Navasota, TX. And as most of you know, the results and accomplishments of this meeting, as most other Politburo HOB meetings, could have been mailed in, thus saving every Diocese the expense of another paid vacation for its pointy-hatted one. But of course it's early March, and the Texican sun is warming to their liberal bones, so they just had to have this meeting, budgets be damned.
Two actions reported today kinda sum up the whole thing. On one hand, the HOB voted to depose Bishop John David Schofield and Bishop Suffragan William Jackson Cox, both of whom had already resigned from the TEC HOB. In other words, they conducted a meaningless, mean-spirited gesture against two Godly men who continue their ministry in other forums. They had the gall to claim "The process used to work through these resolutions took into account the importance of prayer and careful reflection before each vote was taken." I'm sure most of the HOB really had to struggle with that one. Right. Believe that one and I have some fresh squid for you from right here in the Kentucky River.
On the other hand, the HOB issued a statement about Gene Robinson being denied a Lambeth invitation. The only remarkable thing about this statement is that is was only surpassed in its "whininess" by Robinson's own diatribe on the same subject: "We, the House of Bishops of the Episcopal Church, approaching the forthcoming Lambeth Conference, are mindful of the hurt that is being experienced by so many in our own Episcopal Church, in other Provinces of our global communion, and in the world around us. While the focus of this hurt seems centered on issues of human sexuality, beneath it we believe there is a feeling of marginalization by people of differing points of view. Entering into Holy Week, our response is to name this hurt and to claim our hope that is in Christ."
It continues to be amazing to me that so many people, allegedly Christian leaders, can whine on ad nauseum about "hurt" and "pain" when they do not get their way, and yet can so blithely stomp on those with whom they disagree. Yes, poor little Gene does not get invited to the Lambeth party and the HOB thinks it is the most awful tragedy. At the same time, this group is willing to gladly toss hundreds of orthodox parishioners out of their buildings, bring ridiculously expensive lawsuits against fellow Anglicans, threaten and depose their clergy, and marginalize the orthodox in every possible way, all to the eventual destruction of the Episcopal Church and very probably the Anglican Communion.
As I post this, I find it difficult to summon the sense of outrage and injustice I have formerly held against the HOB and their actions. Perhaps this is because, as I said before, the outcome of this meeting could have been mailed in. Nothing this group does anymore is surprising; if they had a truly charitable response to anyone who opposes them, THAT would be an upset of greater than Giants over Patriots proportions. TEC is done; it has become truly irrelevant to anyone who chooses to follow a traditional Christian faith; it is long past time for the orthodox to run away, far away, and find a peaceful and loving place from which to worship God and Jesus Christ, while TEC swirls away down the drain.
